Itinerary
Arrival and reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi). Transfer to Osoita Lodge in the outskirts of Nairobi, from which place the safari will start. Briefing and presentation of the off road motorcycles for the tour starting the next day. Dinner and overnight at Osoita.
Have breakfast at 07:00, then take a track running on the edge of the spectacular Great Rift Valley to arrive at Kajiado Township for refueling. Enjoy your picnic lunch, then take a track across the Savannah between acacias and anthills. Arrive through the sandy riverbed of a seasonal river at Selenkay Camp, an eco-friendly camp managed and owned by the local Masai community.
Take part in a cultural visit of traditional Masai huts, entertainment to traditional songs and dances. Dinner, cultural talk around a camp-fire, night at the tented camp. Today, the journey covers 140 kilometers / 87 miles of track and 30 kilometers / 29 miles on tarmac (6 hours).
Depart after breakfast through an animal trail, in the Savannah across Masai land towards Amboseli National Park, with Mount Kilimanjaro (19950 feet) in the backdrop, which in clear weather, sits across the southern horizon in marvelous splendor. At the boundary of the park, follow some beautiful trail rich in wildlife such as; giraffe, ostrich, wildebeest, and zebras.
Arrive at Kibo Safari Camp, a tented lodge under beautiful Acacia Tortilis, with a majestic view on Mount Kilimanjaro. Game drive in the afternoon by 4WD car in Amboseli, the habitat for big cats, herds of antelopes, buffalos, and elephants. Return at sunset, dinner and night at the lodge.
Depart after breakfast, driving away along Tsavo park boundary on a red soil trail covered with black volcanic stones, the Kilimanjaro remains behind in a full enjoyable view. A sandy track leads to Lake Jipe (a part of Tsavo Park, stretching in front of Pare Mountains in Tanzania), It is a wild place untouched by tourism and teeming in herds of elephants and a rich birdlife.
Settle at the lake bandas (bungalows thatched with palm leaves) right on the lakeshore. Take part in a boat ride on the lake before sunset in to enjoy a close view of hippos. Spend the night in the banda beds. Today’s trip involves 125 kilometers / 78 miles of gravel road and 25 kilometers / 16 miles of tarmac road (five hours)
Early morning game drive in the park by 4WD, return at the bandas for breakfast and depart to Taita Hills through the main gravel road linking Tsavo to Tanzania. Exit the Masai territory through which we have been travelling for the past four days!
Last refill at Mwatate center before entering in Taita ranch, home to a large elephant population and vast land of dry shrubbery. Navigate through bushy vegetation and sandy trail, up a steep track, to arrive at Kasigau Kopje for a spectacular view of Taita land. The Kopje, formed 20 million years ago in the time of the great rift escarpment has its summit covered with a rain forest!
Wind down at night at Ndovu House Kivuli Camp, a beautiful thatched cottage in the heart of Rukinga conservancy inhabited by elephants, buffalos, antelopes, and big cats. Today’s trip covers 110 kilometers / 68 miles on earth and sand road and 80 kilometers / 50 miles on tarmac road (six and half hours).
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Nairobi with your picnic lunch on the way arriving in the evening. Check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to your lodge where you will spend two nights in a hidden lodge acclimatizing for your mountain climbing. The lodge is booked on full board.
After breakfast, you will be picked by our guide who will brief you about the mountain and start your trek. It takes about one hour to get to the Sirimon Park Gate (2600m) crossing the equator en-route. Sirimon gate marks the start of the Sirimon route. From here is an interesting 2-3 hours walk through Forest, bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (3340m). Accommodation today will be at the Old Moses mountain hut (3340m).

Leaving after breakfast. Today is a long 6 – 7 hours hike to Shipton’s mountain hut (4200 mts). Leaving early, we traverse the expansive moorlands carpeted with tussock grasses and dotted with the unique Giant lobelia and Senecio plants, crossing streams and valleys. Today’ trek is largely through the Mackinder Valley, with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch. Dinner & Over Night at Old Moses Mountain Camp.
Predawn attempt of the summit starts at 03.00 or 04.00hrs and you hike for about three hours up steep scree slopes and across rugged rocks to Point Lenana summit – 4985mts. It is planned that you arrive in time to witness the African Sun rise as it reflects its golden glow on the Majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion over the equator. On a clear day you can see the snowcapped summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro miles away to the south. After celebrating the achievement descend down through Lewis Glacier up to the Austrian hut to join to the Naromoru track and descend for 2 hours to Mackinder’s camp for breakfast then relax the rest of the day. Dinner and overnight at Mackinder’s Camp (4300m). Dinner & Over Night at Mackinder Hut.
After an early breakfast, begin a 3-4-hour descent to Met Station (3030mts). The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands, Heather and the lower vertical bog. From Met Station is another 2 hours walk down on a wide dirt road leading to the Naromoru Park gate (2600m) where we meet the vehicle that will take us via a hotel at the base of Mount Kenya for a quick shower to freshen up before driving back to Nairobi. After the refreshing break we proceed on to Nairobi arriving in the late afternoon. You will be dropped at Nairobi airport to connect with your flight back home.
